Assignment: Landscapes in Art


Complete the following three parts of your assignment.

Part One:

What is Landscape painting? Write minimum one paragraph.

Part Two:

The following images are examples of how landscapes have been depicted over the last few centuries.


Arrange them into their correct chronological order. First have a guess and then research the actual dates. (Approximations accepted)

Homework Task 1: Jan van Goyen vs Claude Lorrain

Your task is to critically analyse the two images. River Scene by Janvan Goyen and Rest on the Flight into Egypt by Claude Lorrain.
1. Describe the images in terms of composition.
2. Describe the images in terms of atmosphere. Explain how the atmosphere is created with reference to colour, and scale.
3. Explain your personal preference (with reasons to back you up)
4. Write a short biography about your preferred artist.
